Results: Roddy Piper retains his Intercontinental Championship in 3:30. Highlight: Piper sure had an infectious smile during his title reign, didn't he? Lowlight: The "reveal" at the end. Review: The winner of this match got to defend the title at WrestleMania 8 against one of the greatest technical wrestlers in the history of the sport, Bret "The Hitman" Hart. To show that they could compete against "the best there is/was/ever will be" and help sell the Wrestlemania match-up, surely this would be a scientific showcase, or at least a lengthy brawl with strong story-telling and... nope, not at all. Instead, The Mountie spent most of the 3 minutes softening up Hot Rod to use his "shock stick" to secure victory, even pouring water on the champion at one point. At some point there was a ref bump. Piper, who did not remove his shirt prior to the match, fell victim to the Mountie's shock stick and dropped to the mat, but then miraculously rose back to his feet. Piper utilized an roundhouse to gain control of the shock stick on The Mountie, and scored the pin. As Vince and The Brain wondered when and how Piper got these new electricity-invulnerability super powers, he removed his T-shirt to show off a "Shock Proof" shirt. Maybe it was made of thick, Army-grade rubber. I don't know. But to quote Harry Dunne from Dumb and Dumber: "What if he shocked in the face?" Surely, The Hot Scot did not think it all the way through. How it could have been better: If they really wanted to make the focus of the match a cattle prod, they could have at least made it a Cattle Prod On A Pole Match; then we wouldn't have been expecting anything more than what we got.
