WWE: 11 Top Stars Who Quit Over Creative Decisions
5. Bruno Sammartino, 1988
The Living Legend and longest reigning WWF Champion ever split from Vince McMahon in 1988 on very bad terms. Such were the differences between the men that any reconciliation long seemed impossible, and Bruno's decision to rejoin WWE in 2013 came as a genuine shock. The 88 fallout was all down to creative. Sammartino was an old shool guy who only knew wrestling. All of a sudden he was seeing Vince McMahon Jnr promote something different entirely sports entertainment. Bruno didn't like it and took his concerns to McMahon, pointing out that some wrestling entrances actually lasted longer than the matches. Vince dismissed his concerns, after all, the WWF was making more money than ever. The straw that broke the camels back was when Bruno's son David was fired for fighting with a fan. The Living Legend decided he couldn't work in the WWF any longer and quit the company. In the years that followed he was one of the most vocal critics of the Attitude Era, stating that he didn't recognise the sex and violence as pro wrestling. It wasn't until the WWE cleaned up its product with the PG guidelines that Bruno decided creative was in line with something he could work within again.
