4. Shawn Michaels Walks Out Of Wrestlemania 13
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9AzgP9wabg At the start of 1997 Shawn Michaels was facing up to the fact he had failed as WWF Champion. The greatest in-ring wrestler ever had failed to draw fans, and the product had seen a decline in fortunes with him on top. As much as Vince McMahon liked the grappler, he knew he had to change the title. The logical decision was to put the belt back on Bret Hart or give it to Steve Austin. Some reports state that the creative plans called for Michaels to lose to Hart in a title rematch at Wrestlemania 13. Then again, perhaps Michaels was slated to lose to Steve Austin who had won the 97 Rumble. Whatever Vince was thinking, Michaels was losing. In what seemed like a massive coincidence to many in the WWF locker room, HBK suddenly went down with a knee injury. The suspicion is that Michaels simply didn't like the creative direction he was going in, so instead he temporarily quit the WWF. While HBK to this day claims he was genuinely injured, the eyebrows remain raised. His quit speech in which he talks about "losing my smile" has became part of wrestling folklore, for this wrestling legend the reputation remains that if he didn't like creative he simply didn't do business.
