WWE: 11 Top Stars Who Quit Over Creative Decisions
6. Paul Heyman, December To Dismember
Paul Heyman has always been two things in life: Passionate and creative. Those kind of characteristics stand a man out, often provoking both appreciation and loathing. By late 2006, the feeling from WWE management for Heyman was definitely one of loathing. Initially buoyed by his success in creative contributions to the WWE ECW reboot, Heyman was getting increasingly frustrated as he lost control over the ECW product to the McMahons. Abandoning the idea of hardcore wrestling, Vince McMahon instead decided to use ECW as a feeder show for Raw and Smackdown. Everything came crashing down at the ill conceived ECW only pay per view, December to Dismember. The event was basically the worst WWE ppv ever, meaningless and poor action with the broadcast also finishing half an hour early. Despite Vince and Stephanie having the biggest hand in the creative for the broadcast, Heyman was instead blamed for the disaster. The reason being was said to be that Paul had caused distraction by insisting CM Punk win the Elimination Chamber main event. The WWE chairman disagreed and instead went with his choice of Bobby Lashley. Disgusted at CM Punk not being picked to go over, Heyman had an angry meeting with Vince and Stephanie which resulted in his departure.
