WWE: 14 Greatest Ever Moments When Superstars Got Revenge
13. Cody Rhodes Unmasks Rey Mysterio
Cody Rhodes had spent the better part of 2010 under the moniker 'Dashing' Cody Rhodes, taking great pleasure in labelling himself the best looking wrestler in the WWE. He offered grooming tips and insults to the audience, but in January 2011 all that changed. In a match against Rey Mysterio Rhodes suffered a legitimate broken nose after being hit in the face with Rey's exposed knee brace. Whilst the incident was an accident, it provided the fuel for an intense rivalry and drastic gimmick change for the second-generation star. The injury required facial reconstruction surgery that caused Cody to miss out on both the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber pay-per-view events and when he did return, he did so underneath a new clear protective mask to hide his "hideous" face. He conducted an interview with Todd Grisham, where he revealed the extent of the mental anguish he was suffering as a result of "losing his looks." One week later Cody would find his vengeance. Using his father 'The American Dream' Dusty Rhodes as a rouse, Cody unleashed a brutal attack on Mysterio. There are plenty of things to love about this segment including a rare heel turn for Dusty Rhodes as he shows that he will always support his son. The attack itself holds many visual highlights, particularly the use of Cody's mini-tron mirror to show Rey's head coming towards it before causing a malfunction as if it smashed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6-BYW3c3M8 Cody topped off the attack by removing the mask of Mysterio, disgracing him the way he himself felt disgraced by his "disfigurement". Whilst Cody would not be the first or last superstar to unmask Rey, his was undeniably the most personal display of doing so. Despite getting the victory over Rey in his debut WrestleMania singles match, it is this segment that truly provides the revenge for Cody Rhodes as he gets to stand tall over Rey Mysterio, holding his mask aloft.
