WWE: 15 Best Sheamus Matches (So Far)

9. Vs. Cesaro (Payback; June 1, 2014)

WWE.comWWE.comAfter months of not having any direction, Sheamus captured his second United States Championship in a Battle Royal on the May 5 edition of Raw. He soon engaged in a feud with Cesaro when their Main Event match ended in a double count-out. Cesaro scored a non-title victory over Sheamus on the May 19 Raw, setting up a championship rematch between the two at the Payback pay-per-view. This marked the first time in a long while that the star-spangled prize had been defended in a match that people actually cared about. It was the first step in a long process in building the title back up to a level of respect and prestige, and Sheamus and Cesaro delivered on all cylinders. While not the Kickoff, the opening slot of a PPV is just as crucial as it sets the tone for the remainder of the night. It was a smart move by WWE to put them in that spot since they had a great bout that kicked off the show on a high note. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_tCbPFZHcw Sheamus and Cesaro have such stellar chemistry together that it's shocking to think that they haven't faced off more times before. Nevertheless, the action was extremely entertaining and Cesaro proved his worth against the former World Heavyweight champion that night. While he came up short of winning the U.S. title, he undoubtedly earned Sheamus' respect as a competitor. It's also the only time that comes to mind that Sheamus has won a match via an inside cradle. Here's hoping this isn't the last we seen from these two in the ring together.
