He soon engaged in a feud with Cesaro when their Main Event match ended in a double count-out. Cesaro scored a non-title victory over Sheamus on the May 19 Raw, setting up a championship rematch between the two at the Payback pay-per-view. This marked the first time in a long while that the star-spangled prize had been defended in a match that people actually cared about. It was the first step in a long process in building the title back up to a level of respect and prestige, and Sheamus and Cesaro delivered on all cylinders. While not the Kickoff, the opening slot of a PPV is just as crucial as it sets the tone for the remainder of the night.
