3. Raw Is Jericho (August 9th 1999)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32OPyEAraU4 If Jerichos 2007 return was a mild disappointment, then his 1999 debut was the polar opposite. For weeks the WWF was counting down to the Millennium. Only thing is the countdown ended in August. And to add further excitement to the event, the countdown ended right smack in the middle of a promo by the Rock on Raw. Word had slipped that the countdown was for Jericho but it didnt make it any less effective on the night. After the countdown, the lights went out, the music hit, JERICHO flashed on screen in massive letters, and Chris stood on the stage arms outstretched to a huge ovation. It should be noted that the music was so fitting for the moment and has always been a great part of Jerichos character. Jerichos promo was a blistering debut promo, which instantly got him over as a heel and a force to be reckoned with on the microphone. He more than held his own against the Rock, even though Rocky eventually had the upper hand. Added to this, his goofy rock star haircut and outfit made his character instantly hateable. He proclaimed himself the Saviour of the WWF, saying that the product had grown stale (years before it eventually actually happened.) The Jericho promo was something completely new in the WWF that no one else on the roster was doing at the time. The WWF made an instant star in one night out of a man who WCW never gave a real chance in the entire time he worked there. Over the next few weeks, Jericho interrupted more of the WWFs big stars, and although (according to his book) he took a while to get comfortable in the WWF, he quickly became one of the biggest stars in the company.
