He was never going to become a WWE headliner, but Tommy Dreamer enjoyed a fruitful midcard career following the company's acquisition of ECW in 2001. A 14-time Hardcore Champion, Dreamer spent 2002's early stages feuding with long-time rival Raven, but his televised appearances became fewer and farther between as 2002 progressed, and by 2003, Dreamer was working as a colour commentator for WWE's developmental territories while positively sleepwalking his way through office duties.

Dreamer played a major part in the ECW One Night Stand pay-per-view in 2005, and when WWE launched their own version of the brand, Tommy had a key role as an 'ECW Original.' He remained prominent on the show throughout the next few years, and became ECW Champion by 2009, before he was eventually released in January 2010.

Tommy returned for a one-off WWE appearance in 2012, and joined The Dudley Boyz and Rhyno in a brief feud with The Wyatt Family in 2015. Today, Dreamer owns and operates the House Of Hardcore promotion, which leans heavily on ECW-themed nostalgia.

He retains a positive working relationship with WWE, and played a recurring guest role on Edge & Christian's Network show in 2016.
