WWE: 6 Most Controversial Old School Gimmicks That Are Unacceptable In 2014

6. The Native American Tatanka (Indian Chief)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahmCF_hDnL8 Tatanka was played by Chris Chavis, who was actually of American Indian descent, unlike Chief Jay Strongbow. However that does not excuse this gimmick. Tatanka€™s entrance alone would merit being included on this list. His theme music began with a rebel yell before morphing into a mid-tempo power anthem. He wore a huge headdress, and began running around the ring with a small skip before saluting the crowd with a tomahawk chop. Don€™t believe me? Just watch. As a kid in the mid 1990€™s I was led to believe all Native Americans would approve of hearing a rebel yell and being saluted in this manner. Good thing I had parents. Needless to say, a new wrestler coming up through WWE NXT would not be green lighted for this gimmick due to the racial insensitivity it showcases. Native Americans everywhere should have been outraged.
