WWE: 7 Genuine Examples Of Triple H Doing "What's Best For Business"

6. Losing To The Rock In 2000

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWsAuvyrdM4 They had a long rivalry dating back to 1998 when they were feuding over the Intercontinental Title. The Rock was the heel leader of the Nation of Domination while Hunter was the babyface leader of Degeneration X and they had an outstanding ladder match at SummerSlam that year that saw Hunter emerge as the victor. Even though they exchanged the WWE World Title a couple of times in 2000, including some awesome matches at Backlash and Judgment Day, ultimately it was The Rock that emerged as the guy that won their feud. The final nail in the coffin was placed when The Rock beat Hunter as well as Kurt Angle in a triple threat match in the main event of SummerSlam. They did take part in other PPV matches together, but for the most part that was the end of the rivalry. What was great about Hunter's feud with Rock is that both guys became bigger stars after it was over. As the face, it made sense that Rock was able to win the title and retain it during their rivalry, but Hunter was elevated to the level of the top heel in the company at that point too. it was the perfect example of booking benefiting both guys at once.
