WWE And TNA: 7 Worst Moments Of The Week (Jan 15)

4. Cena Beats Baron

Week after week on Raw, they give away the absolute biggest matches they can and then just ram that thing into the ground.

In theory, Seth Rollins vs. Kevin Owens, and Roman Reigns vs. Owens are probably two of the top five matches that the brand can present without having to resort to part-timers. And yet, most fans could probably go the next 10 years without wanting to see either of those bouts again. Over on SmackDown, they just took the first step into having the same problem by giving away Baron Corbin vs. John Cena.

To their slight credit, they actually announced the match one week in advance. However, that was a “first time ever” match, which it can now never be again. I guess the thinking was that Cena MUST slay someone credible, so people will think he has a chance against A.J. Styles? Is that it? I don’t think many people were having trouble imagining that Cena was an equal to Styles, but if that was the thinking then why not bring out Kane for that role instead? He’s gotta be around backstage somewhere. He put over The Milkman by countout, so he should be fine with lying down for Cena again.

Corbin has done a decent job of getting himself over, which means he deserved a bit of a bigger platform for his first clean loss to a top star. There are a ton of brand split pay-per-views in the future, so the company should have at least held off for one of those to deliver the match. Oh well, they’ll just rerun this thing 10 more times soon and Corbin will get his win back by distraction in match seven or something.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
