WWE Backlash 2018: 10 Things WWE Got Right
6. Samoa Joe Attacking Roman Reigns Pre-Match
Nobody watching Backlash could have failed to spot how lifeless the main event felt by the time Roman Reigns made his inevitable comeback to win. Although Joe's rest hold domination approach made sense from a storyline perspective, it didn't grip the live crowd in New Jersey enough to get them on side with a Reigns shine.
In fact, the only truly memorable part of the headliner was that Joe beatdown on Roman before the bell had even sounded.
Michael Cole did a wonderful job at this point by reminding fans that Reigns would still be feeling the effects of his Steel Cage war with Brock Lesnar just over one full week ago in Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, Joe was relatively well-rested and eager to make an impression against the "Big Dog".
Fans in Newark wanted to see Roman rag dolled around the ringside area by a menacing Joe, and they got their wish for a few satisfying minutes. It wouldn't last however, and that's why Backlash's main event sits so high on this list.
