ARGH!

Look, IYO SKY vs. Asuka is looking like one of the better matches on the undercard going into Backlash, but what if it’s a disappointment? Kairi Sane rumours have intensified, but even that might not be enough if the actual match itself struggles to get going. The pressure is truly on for both of these women to tear the roof off the place this weekend.

Asuka is a seriously respected veteran who routinely gives rivals everything she has, and SKY has blossomed from Damage CTRL villain into a genuinely likeable babyface who shares the same star power Rhea Ripley exhibits, which is impressive. Together, owing somewhat to the tenure of their story on WWE TV, Asuka and IYO should deliver the goods.

Things don't always pan out that way, unfortunately. Sometimes, there's a little gremlin inside that ring with workers, and it makes sure that nothing goes to plan. That's a wretched thought, not least when considering that Triple H might be calling up Kairi for a one off appearance post-release so she can help tie a bow on this plot line.

That moment (Sane surely sticking it to Asuka for all of the verbal abuse and poor treatment lately) will only resonate if it comes as the apex of a hotly-contested match that has everyone on the edge of their seats. If Asuka vs. SKY is meandering and boring before Kairi's music hits/she runs in, then it won't land quite as well.

Here's hoping these women have their game faces on in Tampa. The show might need them.
