Then: He's glorious, but out there in lights he was not very victorious. Bobby Roode is best-known as a backstage agent who helps produce matches for others and pops up in various skits (usually when breaking up brawls) on TV nowadays, but he was still doing his thing as a WWE full-timer in April 2018.

Roode had just been moved up from NXT to Raw as part of the Superstar Shake-Up before jetting off to Jeddah for the GRR. There, he'd last close to 18 minutes in the match before being thrown out by Baron Corbin. Bobby was, however, given the chance to eliminate Scott Dawson of The Revival and Goldust before waving goodbye to his first Rumble.

It was a decent night's work for the dude, all things considered.

Now: As aforementioned, Roode is a producer and agent for WWE these days. He went under the knife for a few serious neck fusion surgeries between 2022-2023, and they effectively ended his active in-ring career. That was a bit of a bummer for everyone, not least because Bobby's team with Dolph Ziggler (Dirty Dawgs) had been one of the slickest tag acts around.

They still seemed to have so much more left to achieve when Roode announced that he was calling it a career.

The interesting thing here is that Bobby was medically cleared to wrestle again. He simply chose not to. Does that mean he'll work at some point in the future? It's possible, but that's really up to Roode himself. He seems perfectly content doing what he's doing at the moment behind the curtain.
