Then: Look into the eyes of a man who's wondering what the future holds for him. Chad Gable had just been drafted to Raw when the Greatest Royal Rumble took place. As a result, his tag-team with Shelton Benjamin was disbanded, and nothing was certain for Gable. Little did he know the torture that was waiting him in 2019 when Vince McMahon decided to call him Shorty f'n G.

He might've elected to go on the run in Saudi had he known that was coming.

For some reason, WWE hadn't quite figured out that Chad was a super-worker by 2018. Thus, he went less than 10 minutes in the 50-man Rumble and was discarded like he didn't matter by Apollo Crews. Those guys would see their careers head in very different directions over the next few years.

Now: Credit where it's due: Gable stomached a lot of old tripe from Vince and WWE in general before making magic with his Alpha Academy faction. His team with Otis proved popular, but the stable also did a lot for Maxxine Dupri and even Akira Tozawa before Gable turned his back on it.

An unlikely offshoot run as El Grande Americano was ended by injury in June 2025, then Ludwig Kaiser randomly took over the role. That'll prove to be a fun story once Chad returns to the ring, assuming Triple H is still interested in the fake lucha gimmick.

Gable has successfully carved out a niche for himself as a serious wrestler who can also do comedy. That's earned him comparisons to greats like Kurt Angle, which he'd surely take as a massive compliment.
