WWE Just Exposed AEW's Most Embarrassing Flaw

Cora Jade Roxanne Perez

On the July 12th NXT, Cora Jade turned heel on Tag Team Championship partner Roxanne Perez.

The moment was mostly remembered for a prop skateboard breaking in Jade's hand rather than over Perez' back in a scene that had one too many echoes of the Jon Moxley/Kenny Omega explosion catastrophe. In both cases, the bookers had done the work and the workers didn't deserve it, but we got what we got.

As with AEW's unfortunate pyro accident, the next episode waved away the accidental fake sh*t and got back to the good kind. Jade's "explain her actions" promo was the usual WWE fare, but was notable for her throwing her tag belt in a trashcan after explaining how Perez having a singles title shot was the figurative equivalent. She then got to flex her new gimmick in a main event battle royal she attempted to steal before being undone at the last minute by returning babyface Zoey Stark. Perez, selling the injury from the prior week, was off television as Jade had hoped. She hadn't counted on Stark though, hence the logical reason her momentum was briefly halted in defeat.

That detail matters - all the details matter all the time and woe betide the promoters that forget this - because this match was all about showing the (admittedly fairly small) viewing audience that these were not the only major events in the women's division.
