WWE Legend Bret Hart Has Prostate Cancer

WWE Hall of Famer reveals he has illness in impassioned Facebook post.

WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart, 58, has revealed on his official Facebook page that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The Hitman spoke directly to his fans, talking about his numerous injuries and battles throughout his life as a professional wrestler and recounting the various injuries he has suffered (including a career-ending concussion). From there, Bret revealed that he was now facing his 'toughest' battle, writing:

I've had a great lifelong dance and I'm a survivor of many hard battles. I now face my toughest battle. With hesitation and fear, I openly declare myself in my fight against prostate cancer. In the next few days, I will undergo surgery with the hope of defeating this nemesis once and for all.
The former WWE Champion then made reference to a young man named Whesley that he saw fight brain cancer 'to the end', adding that if he could 'find even an ounce of his courage to stand unafraid and face the tough road ahead of me, I will march toward this destiny with his spirit chanting in my ear'. A clearly impassioned Bret continued, stating that he's had the love and support of his wife and family, including his children and grandchildren, before closing with:
I refuse to lose, I will never give in or give up, and I will win this battle or die trying. Most important of all, I hope I can take the fight to prostate cancer. To be a leader in awareness and to set the example for men everywhere who find themselves in my very same shoes, that prostate cancer can be beaten.
The whole post can be viewed at Bret's personal Facebook page. Bret Hart is one of the most beloved performers in WWE history and his fans are sure to react to this news with great sadness and fear. Bret took the role of hero very seriously during his nineties heyday, and it's obvious reading this post that he is determined to not only beat cancer, but to also try and encourage and inspire those who may be going through something similar to what he is going through. We here at WhatCulture WWE would like to wish Bret the very best in his fight against prostate cancer.
