WWE Network Pull List: 10 Must-See Matches And Shows (May 11)
9. WCW Souled Out 1998
By the time January 1998 rolled around, there was a lot wrong with WCW, particularly the freedom it gave its top stars creatively. There was also a lot to love about the company, particularly its talented roster. Souled Out is a pay-per-view event that puts that talent in the position to thrive and the result is an extraordinary broadcast at a time when that simply was not happening.
Chris Benoit and Raven wrestled a brilliant match, an instant classic that was equal parts brutality and superb storytelling. Benoit proved his worth as a brawler while Raven showcased his ability to bump all over to make his opponent look good. The finish was extraordinary and put over the importance of facial expressions to an overall performance.
Bret Hart and Ric Flair renewed their rivalry. While both were significantly older than they were when they last met six years earlier, they were still incredibly talented wrestlers capable of delivering a damn fine wrestling match, which they did here.
Sprinkle a little Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho, a better-than-expected Kevin Nash vs. Giant battle of the big men and the always awesome La Parka and you have a recipe for one of the better WCW events under Eric Bischoff.
