The original decision to have Cena and Rollins face off with both the U.S. and WWEWHC titles on the line at SummerSlam was a dubious one, especially since it posed questions on what Rollins, the chickens**t heel, would do. To remedy that situation, WWE booked Cena to win at Night of Champions, reclaiming the belt after less than a month.

Though it does make Rollins’ U.S. title reign appear useless in retrospect, at least this allows for Cena to go back to what made him even more popular throughout the 2015 calendar year: the U.S. Title Open Challenge.

Let’s not kid ourselves here - those U.S. title matches were easily the best matches on each show whenever they took place, regardless of the fact that Cena kept on winning. Even in victory, Cena was doing the right thing by giving other wrestlers opportunities at a championship that they wouldn’t otherwise get.

Furthermore, Cena accepted challenges from both babyfaces and heels, which led to a wider variety of opponents for him.

Given Cena’s victory last night, this trend can continue, and fans can expect to see more of those contests. And everyone wins in that scenario: Rollins as U.S. Champion was nothing more than a ploy to make him unique. After all, you didn’t expect him to put on great matches like the one at Night Of Champions on as regular a basis as Cena does, did you?
