WWE No Mercy 2016: 10 Awesome Moments

The atmosphere was electric for that WWE Title Triple Threat...

SmackDown Live's first pay-per-view event was notable for an AJ Styles WWE Title victory, Becky Lynch becoming the first SmackDown Women's Champ and a stirring win for Heath Slater and Rhyno. Aside from that, the card felt a little lacking. On second try, the blue brand hoped to improve on Backlash with No Mercy.

The No Mercy name itself was pulled out of WWE archives and cast as the latest SmackDown pay-per-view. Four titles were scheduled to be on the line, although one of those championship matches was canned on the Kickoff show. Still, there was enough entertainment on offer to make the event worthwhile, even if some on social media were mighty confused by the card's format.

Huge near falls, surprise returns, massive moves and some excellent facial expressions pepper this list. It's hard for WWE to please absolutely everyone with their pay-per-views (especially when they tamper with a proven formula). Overall, the promotion can be pleased with what was achieved with this one.

Here are the most awesome moments from No Mercy, SmackDown Live's second supershow...

10. Curt Hawkins Announcement

Dolph Ziggler WWE Intercontinental Title
WWE Network

Curt Hawkins only made his return to WWE a few months ago, playing the role of a super self-obsessed heel who narrates himself to the ring and comes across like a typically egotistical villain. There's nothing especially wrong with that, Hawkins plays the role really well. At No Mercy, he had promised to step foot in the ring.

The heel lived up to his word, yet hilariously didn't wrestle. Instead, he fulfilled his promise in the most literal sense. Pointing to the entrance ramp, Hawkins watched as a burst of fireworks brightly blazed. The celebration was for absolutely nothing, and that fact somehow only made the segment more endearing.

Hawkins was only there to announce his plans to wrestle on the upcoming episode of SmackDown Live. That was it, there was no match for the man on either No Mercy's proper pay-per-view broadcast or the pre-show Kickoff portion.

Regardless of being complete throwaway, Curt Hawkins managed to entertain with his brief appearance. This character has potential if handled correctly. Hawkins himself seems to be having a ball.
