WWE Royal Rumble: Best Performances From Every Entry Slot
21. Bret Hart - 1997
Bret 'The Hitman' Hart holds the record for best finish from the No. 21 spot, lasting over 20 minutes and eliminating two men on his way to second place.
The Hitman, much like Triple H in 2002, entered the match to meet Austin, and Austin only. Hart, having the advantage as the fresh man, dominated Stone Cold, pausing momentarily to eliminate Jerry 'The King' Lawler. Ten minutes later, the ring was full of combatants, including Mankind, Terry Funk, and Rumble newcomer Rocky Maivia.
In one of the most controversial moments in the history of the Royal Rumble, Bret managed to throw The Rattlesnake over the top rope. Yet with all three officials on the other side of the ring trying to separate Mankind and Terry Funk, both of whom were already out of the match, the elimination went unnoticed.
Just seconds later The Hitman, among others, was eliminated by Steve Austin, ending his hopes of victory. This is still the greatest achievement by a No. 21 entrant, but it should have been so much more.
