WWE have signed Welsh wrestler Steve Evans who currently works under the name 'Stevie Starr', to a development contract. Evans was spotted by WWE scouts while working an event at the 02 Arena in London last April. Evans who is 28 years old and from Swansea in South Wales was wrestling for the promoter of Welsh Wrestling, Alan Ravenhill when he was caught the eye of WWE officials. Giving an interview to the local paper in South Wales 'The Evening Post', Steve had this to say: In regards to his current ring name:Once I get over there, I am their property. They can call me what they want. His ability in the ring and the opportunity he's been given:
Everyone says I'm quite athletic. I'm a guy who can move around. I can do some high flying. I'm just going to go out to America on my own to start. It is al a bit scary at the moment. It is all happening very fast. If this had happened to someone else I would have been shocked. On who he idolizes in wrestling industry:
This is the only thing I have ever wanted to do. Stone Cold Steve Austin was my man when I was growing up. It was his charisma and his aura about it. He was a fantastic wrestler, he had everything.Since being offered a development contract by WWE, Evans has recently undergone a medical in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and once he has been given the green light will relocate to Florida where he will begin his WWE training. He joins fellow Welshman Mason Ryan who entered WWE development in 2009 and debuted on the main roster two years later. Another fellow Welshan currently on the main circuit is Rob Terry who wrestles under the guise of Robbie T. He also hails from Swansea in South Wales. Terry currently works for TNA and is partnered with Jersey Shore inspired act Robbie E. This a big opportunity for the Swansea born athlete who has been working small circuits, showcasing his talent at venues ranging from Arenas to local Leisure Centres. At 6ft 6in and weighing around 260 pounds, Evans has the kind of build WWE desires. As long as he has the skills and talent and is able to adapt to WWE's wrestling style then there is a good chance he could find himself elevated to the main stage in the near future.
