WWE SummerSlam 2015: 12 Biggest Takeaways
3. John Cena And Seth Rollins Put On The Best Match Of The Night
With NXT: TakeOver Brooklyn still fresh in fans' minds going into SummerSlam, expectations for match quality was high. Unfortunately, most of the matches were above-average at best, with one or two of them more akin to a RAW-level match than something you'd see on a marquis show like SummerSlam. However, the match between John Cena and Seth Rollins not only managed to meet fans' expectations for match quality, but it was hands down the best match of the show in terms of quality.
Both Rollins demonstrated some unbelievable athleticism during this match, and told a great story in the ring. Though Cena did perform to his usual high standard, he managed to bust out some interesting moves, including a rare Figure-4 Leg Lock, which was an awesome reference to Ric Flair's legacy that hung ominously throughout the match.
But it was Rollins who delivered the goods in this match more than Cena. Rollins simply out-performed Cena in every way: his aerial maneuvers were more crisp and well-timed (Cena botched hid diving leg drop badly, missing Rollins' head entirely), he showed unusual strength (which is usually Cena's selling point), and used a rare variety of moves (a Superplex immediately transitioned into a Falcon Arrow).
Though the ending wasn't clean, the end result was the best one possible: Rollins won, demonstrating why Triple H and other power-brokers in WWE are behind him so much. His athleticism, character, and overall presentation make him the perfect person to carry WWE into the future.
