7. Nick Aldis Flops In His Big Moment
The bold Nick Aldis hasn't hauled on a pair of boots to work a wrestling match since 7 October 2023. His last bout? A 5-way scrap against Caleb Konley, Beastman, Matthew Justice and Facade for the ACW Bluegrass Con Title. No disrespect intended to the good name of ACW and independent wrestling as a whole, but that's a million miles away from the glitzy bright lights and pressure-filled atmosphere of WWE SummerSlam.
Oh yes, the heat will be on for tricky Nicky this weekend, and he must be feeling it already. There's a bright side to this, at least: Some fans posting about the match on social media don't seem familiar with just how accomplished a worker Aldis has been throughout his lengthy career. He's been TNA and NWA World Champ, after all.
Granted, that was then and this is now. Gunther has been sharpening his chops in epic battles on huge WWE PLEs for years now, and he's been trusted to retire stars as massive as Bill Goldberg, John Cena and AJ Styles. In some respects, facing Nick (who was most recently a suit-wearing authority figure) is a step down for him compared to wrestling for World Titles.
The pressure rests fully on Nick's shoulders. He has to impress.
No-one wants to see him flop or for Triple H/other WWE bosses to lose interest in using him as an active member of the roster going forwards. Aldis has waited his entire life for this kind of opportunity, and there's no going back now. Get those digits crossed again!
