With WWE Survivor Series: WarGames 2025 now in our rearview mirror, there's now some information on how WWE is lining things up for WrestleMania 42.

For those who missed Survivor Series, the main event saw the men's WarGames match end with Bron Breakker pinning CM Punk, with an assist from a mystery masked attacker. And while one might presume that this will be leading to a World Heavyweight Championship match for Breakker, what might be a little surprising is that the match is seemingly being held off on until next year's Showcase of the Immortals.

Speaking on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted how the current WrestleMania 42 plans are for Bron Breakker to face CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Title, and for Cody Rhodes to defend the WWE Championship against Roman Reigns.

As Meltzer explained:

"That finish was there not to be a great finish for this match, it was there to tell the story. This whole thing, when we come out of this match, the idea was we're supposed to know WrestleMania, which is Cody and Roman, and Punk and Bron Breakker as the championship matches."

When asked by his co-host Bryan Alvarez whether WWE would really run back Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns - the two having shared three WrestleMania main events across the past three years - Meltzer simply stated, "That's the plan as of today."

Of course, the American Nightmare and the Tribal Chief have plenty of history together, not least in headlining WrestleMania 39 and both nights of WrestleMania 40. The final moments of Survivor Series 2025 certainly teased tension between the two, and it now remains to be seen whether WWE really would run this back yet again at WrestleMania 42.
