WWE: The Many Faces Of Glenn Jacobs AKA Kane

Kane

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvDn9kWTVwE As The Undertaker prepared to put away The Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michael in their first ever televised singles match the lights in the arena went out. Moments later the late great Paul Bearer emerged from behind the curtain leading a huge masked wrestler to the ring. It soon became apparent that this scary looking individual who ripped the door off the Hell in a Cell was Kane the younger brother of The Undertaker who had been thought dead following a fire caused by 'Taker as a child - Kayfabe of course. For the next 16 years Jacobs owned his gimmick of The Big Red Machine gradually updating it and adding new layers to the once mute, supposedly burned beyond recognition sociopath. Perhaps the biggest turn in his career was when he was forced to unmask and was shown to have no burns at all with the twist added that he simply has issues with his appearance and had no real reason to wear the mask. Although many fans were outraged that the character had had to take off his mask thus killing his mystique it allowed Jacobs to reinvent himself and convey a whole host of different emotions he would not have been able to wearing a mask. Now back with his mask and hair (although this is probably still a wig) Kane is one half of the WWE tag team champions and is one of the funniest things on all WWE programming but the beauty is he could so easily return to his dangerous heel character at any second and fans would believe it. He is arguably one of the most versatile characters on the entire roster. There is no way anybody foresaw this twist to the Kane gimmick back in 1997 that's for sure. Since being reborn as Kane in 1997 Jacobs has had all kinds of success landing himself 2 runs as the top champion, 12 tag team championships reigns, runs as Intercontinental and Hardcore champion and ECW champion and was only the 3rd man in WWE history to win every title there is to have. Quite the turnaround for a guy who used to wrestle as a Christmas Tree. At the age of 45 the man who surprisingly was born in Madrid, Spain shows no signs of slowing down. His current run alongside Daniel Bryan is perhaps producing some of the best work he's ever done and as other big guys like The Undertaker begin to wind down their careers it's obvious WWE still has big plans for him. Glen Thomas Jacobs has been on the WWE payroll now for around 18 years and we'd wager he'll be around for a good few more yet.
