WWE Want To Work With More Japanese Promotions
After beginning to work with AJPW, it looks like WWE want more Japanese allies..
WWE are wanting to work with more Japanese promotions going forward.
The sports entertainment giant recent began a new working relationship with AJPW, a move that has seen NXT's Charlie Dempsey head over to Japan and compete with various wrestlers, including AJPW Triple Crown Champion Katsuhiko Nakajima.
Now, it's been reported by Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE aren't content with just the one Japanese ally.
Meltzer notes that Paul Levesque and perhaps Nick Khan have been looking at possible other Japanese promotions to work with in the future, along with a "women's group ally", too. Internally, the major company discussed is NJPW, with WWE thinking about "trying to make another go" with the promotion now Hiroshi Tanahashi has taken on the role of president.
AEW have obviously experienced a ton of success working alongside New Japan to deliver their Forbidden Door PPVs, and Tony Khan's company have also been happy to send their top stars out to perform at NJPW events both in the states and Japan. Whether that pre-existing relationship would have an impact on any potential WWE partnership remains to be seen.
The last time WWE discussed working with NJPW in 2021, those talks didn't end up going anywhere. But stranger things have happened with 'Papa H' and Nick Khan steering the sports entertainment ship.
