WWE WrestleMania 42: 20 Things That NEED To Happen

4. Crestfallen Cody Rhodes Sneers At Fan Boos

Cody cut a distraught figure back at ‘Mania 39, and fans were appalled that he’d lost to Roman Reigns. 3 years on, he’ll likely hear booing if he does the puppy dog eyes thing again. That sustained babyface run was seriously impressive, but it was never going to last forever. That's no diss on Cody, it's just the way things work, and he'll know that.

So, it’d be smart to have Rhodes lean into a more heelish response by sneering at the live crowd and storming out once they reject his misery. No more pandering to "family" like on SmackDown. It'll get pathetic, and the last thing WWE needs is a desperate babyface who's hanging on to whatever mild cheers he can muster.

Cody isn't stupid. He's a student of the game and someone who loves wrestling like it's the blood that runs through his veins. If he and those backstage are paying attention, then they'll quit the pretence that he can be some super-smiley 'whaddya wanna talk about?!' good guy for much longer. That characterisation is starting to poke holes in his credibility, sadly.

Seeing Rhodes wake up from an RKO, realise he's lost his precious championship, then dart his eyes around in horror as the same folks who were once fighting his corner now mocked him would be a beautiful visual. He has the facial expressions to pull it off, especially if WWE's cameras zoom in then out dramatically to capture the full scene as it plays out.

'FU right back', he'd mouth before leaving.
