WWE WrestleMania 42: 20 Things That NEED To Happen
5. Randy Orton Grabs The Big 15
Winning the WWE Title on Saturday would mark Randy’s 15th World Championship in the promotion. Being honest, creative has kinda backed themselves into a corner with the added stipulation about Pat McAfee “leaving the wrestling business for good” if his man loses. There was honestly no call for tacking that on.
McAfee was an acquired taste as a colour commentator behind the announce desk, but he's an unwanted stink on the natural story between these old Legacy teammates and friends turned enemies. On the plus side, the writing team can still salvage something if they start moving away from Pat's 'too cool for school' shoot comments like he's some smart mark who just crash landed from 20 years ago.
Further, all this chat about McAfee and the 'Attitude Era' is a bit strange. He was never part of that, and neither was Randy. Orton emerged during the 'Ruthless Aggression' days, not 'Attitude'. Is this splitting hairs? Probably, but someone should tell WWE to check their own history!
None of this sideshow stuff will matter in the end if Randy wins the WWE Title then celebrates with one of those cold, calculated 'Viper' grins as Pat straps the belt around his waist. That's another point - McAfee can't be running around carrying the title himself like he did on SmackDown. What was that all about?
This weekend could well be a historic moment for multiple reasons. Orton's 15th World Title win is within touching distance, and the true end of the Cody era on top as a babyface might be in the works.
