WWE's Biggest Booking DISASTER Every Year (1986-2026)
7. Goldberg Destroys ‘The Fiend’ For No Reason (2020)
Spear! Spear! Spear!
Super ShowDown 2020 was the second last PLE to take place before the pandemic hit, the world shut down and the product retreated behind closed doors. WWE jaunted over to Saudi Arabia seemingly with one mission in mind: Let's destroy everything we've built with 'The Fiend' in around 3 pain-filled minutes.
Goldberg was on hand to dethrone Bray Wyatt's offshoot just like he had done to Kevin Owens in 2017. This time, 'The Fiend' lasted a little bit longer than his predecessor, but even a 33 minute encounter couldn't have masked how pitifully stupid it was to toss Wyatt to the wolves.
WWE fancied Goldberg vs. Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 36, which they wouldn't even get due to the aforementioned pandemic. Granted, they weren't to know that at the time of Super ShowDown, but this was nonetheless quite the affront to anyone who had invested in Bray under his spooky mask.
How could people take 'The Fiend' seriously ever again now he'd been WCW Nitro'd by Bill in short order? Creative may as well have dubbed Bray the new Bobby Blaze, because he was only on hand as collateral for someone who (again) didn't need the belt he was being handed in the first place.
There was a time when Goldberg getting straps made sense, but 2020 was not it. Apparently, Saudi's money men wanted to see the ex-squash match machine relive former glories though, so that's what happened. Someone get them a copy of 2K's latest video game and a PS5 instead next time, please.
