WWE's Singles Title-Holders In 2016 - Ranked Worst To Best
5. Kevin Owens (Universal Champion, Intercontinental Champion)
Prior to Dallas, the Intercontinental Title had been brought into recent WrestleManias by the likes of a losing streak-riding Bad News Barrett or Big E who got lost in the Battle Royal shuffle. The effect of having Kevin Owens walk into 'Mania 32 as IC Champ can be summed up by the crowd reaction when his music hit.
Perhaps no wrestler on the roster is more arrogant with a title slung over his shoulder than KO, and WWE recognised this in 2016. After going to extreme lengths (including a ladder and last man standing match) in the name of the IC Title, WWE decided to avoid the more conventional options of Rollins and Reigns and crown Kevin Owens the second ever Universal Champion.
Many could argue that he is overshadowed by Jericho and his list, but Owens is an integral part of every Raw show and holding the top belt on the red brand makes him a dastardly foe to overcome. He's not cutting the same old bad guy promos either, meaning that his role as main event champion, much like the belt itself, remains new and fresh.
