4. Brock’s Alliance With Vince Led To…Nothing!

Kurt Angle nearly won the promotional award for 'Dumbest Man Of The Year' for falling into the trap carefully constructed by Vince McMahon and Brock Lesnar on the 7 August '03 edition of SmackDown. A steel cage outing pitting McMahon vs. Lesnar was stopped suddenly when Brock attacked special ref Kurt and seemingly became the latest in a long line of workers to join forces with Vince's evil boss character.

In theory, McMahon leading the charge for a pet project like Lesnar should've been stunning. After all, Vince could talk, talk, talk with the best of them, and he could even mix it physically in special attraction matches with the right people when needed. Plus, there'd be the inevitable split and blowoff vs. Brock to come that'd help pin down a pay-per-view.

None of that happened.

McMahon didn't actually rep Lesnar for too long after they'd aligned. This was exclusively done to get Brock back on the heel side after surprisingly going babyface at the tail end of 2002. If one's feeling curt (not Kurt), then he'd suggest that Vince with Lesnar proved totally pointless in retrospect. It went nowhere.

On top of all that, Lesnar was out of the company by WrestleMania XX in 2004. He'd soured on the rough schedule and wanted to do something else with his life for a while, so McMahon's freshest new blockbuster star vanished less than 2 full years after becoming a headliner.

That had to suck, but it doesn't excuse the fact that WWE did sod all with the Vince and Brock love in when they had the chance.
