4. Y: The Last Man

You may read the premise for creators Brian K. Vaughn and Pia Guerra s sci-fi odyssey Y: The Last Man an unknown plague kills every living male mammal on the planet with the exception of one man and his monkey and think that doesnt sound too bad, right? Perhaps youll be the lucky guy who has to repopulate the planet or if youre a girl no more leaving the toilet seat up. However this is a nightmare version of the world where half the population are dead and the other half has gone totally insane in the membrane. On July 17th 2002, something kills every living male on the planet, plunging the world into chaos. The only exceptions are young escape artist Yorick Brown and his pet monkey Ampersand. They set out across America to reunite with his mother (Yoricks, not the monkeys) and are drawn into a story that is both huge in scope yet very personal. There are dodgy politicians, creepy scientists, government killers, an Israeli assassin and even a ninja but it comes down to one boy and his monkey. Talk of a film adaptation has been around for years with rumors Disturbia pair DJ Caruso and Shia Lebeouf were interested but with news in January 2013 that Dan Trachtenberg is to direct, now is the time to read this seminal science fiction comicbefore its ruined. (Just kidding, Trachtenberg may have never directed a big picture before but he has showed some ingenuity and flair with short film Portal: No Escape so fingers crossed.
