10 Amazing Comic Books You're Probably Ignoring

4. Valkyrie: Jane Foster (Marvel)

Justice League Dark Wonder Woman Helmet of Fate
Marvel Comics

If you were a fan of Jane Foster as The Mighty Thor, then this is the series is for you. Now the only Valkyrie, Jane has more than her old superhero responsibilities to juggle with her job in the morgue, she also has the responsibilities unique to a Valkyrie.

The beginning arc sees Jane try to resume being a superhero but instead of wielding Mjolnir she wields Undrjarn the All-Weapon - a weapon that's capable of changing its shape to meet Jane's needs in battle, whether that be as a pair of wings, a shield, or a mace.

But the highlight of the series is Jane learning what it means to be a Valkyrie.

Before when she was the Mighty Thor, Jane was entirely focused on protecting the Nine Realms, but as Valkyrie Jane can see how close people are to death. And when a person dies, it's her job to guide their soul to the afterlife.

We still have the Asgardian influence in this series, but it's more focused on Jane as a doctor and how that relates to being Valkyrie instead of a superhero.
