10 Amazing Legacy Superheroes Who Proved Fans Wrong

2011's Death of Spider-Man comic was a major event for Marvel when it released. Until that point, in either of Marvel's biggest universes, no one had really thought about actually killing off Peter Parker. Attempts were made to replace him - temporarily - in the nineties, but there's never really been a point in Marvel's modern history where Pete hasn't been present.
The Ultimate Universe, created in 2000 by Brian Bendis, Mark Millar and others, was meant to do away with those conventions. Modernising the Marvel Universe, Bendis set out to tell a now legendary run on the wall-crawler, a fact that was duly reflected at the time when it was turned into a video game. Come 2011 however, the universe was beginning to lose its appeal. Decimated by two disastrous event comics in Ultimates III and Ultimatum, Ultimate Marvel was placed on life support and in major need of rescue. Miles Morales was the one to mount it.
Making his debut in that very year, Miles was introduced as a supporting character and one who idolised Spider-Man. When a similar accident befell him, Miles discovered he shared the same powers as his hero, and when Pete actually died, he was the one to pick up the slack.
He's a key feature in the main Marvel Universe now, with both Spideys sharing the load. He'll star in an animated film of his own shortly too, cementing his own legacy and proving all his doubters wrong along the way. Go Miles!
