10 Astonishing Facts About Kryptonite

7. There Are Different Types Of Kryptonite

Superman Kryptonite
DC Comics

Red Kryptonite has a random effect on Superman. In the past, it has transformed him into a dragon, a dwarf, an ant-headed man, and rendered him blind to the colour green. Probably the weirdest thing Red Kryptonite had done to Superman was make him... grow a beard.

But that's not the only strain of Kryptonite. Gold Kryptonite temporarily removes all of his powers; Anti-Kryptonite has no effect on Kryptonians but effects humans the same way Green Kryptonite hurts Superman; Red-and-Green Kryptonite makes Superman grow a third eye on the back of his head (It was in this issue where the writers simply gave up); if a person is exposed to Black Kryptonite, he or she will develop an evil doppelgänger; X-Kryptonite gives superpowers to cats (how... overly specific); and Platinum Kryptonite turns humans into Kryptonians.

The most infamous strain is Pink Kryptonite, which made its first and only appearance in Supergirl #79 in 2003. What does it do? It temporarily turns Superman into an offensive gay stereotype. The writers probably threw this idea in because the comic was being cancelled one issue later so they thought they had nothing to lose.
