2. Spectrum
If there's one thing the Avengers could always do with more of, it's heavy hitters. Spectrum hits harder than perhaps any other hero in the Marvel Universe.
Monica Rambeau was hit by one of those mysterious energy rays that have replaced rats in comic books as the thing you're only ever six feet away from. As a result, she gained the ability to transform her body into any energy on the electromagnetic spectrum. This gave her near limitless powers ranging from bending light to create holograms to controlling the same cosmic rays that gave the Fantastic Four their powers. She's so strong that, if she wanted to, she could destroy an entire planet.
She also serves an important part of comic book history. As Captain Marvel, not only was she the first African-American hero to join the Avengers, she was also the leader of the team for a time.
Unfortunately though, she was then relegated to the Avengers' reserves for decades and had her codename taken by the son of the original Captain Marvel.
Since then she's been Pulsar, Photon and now seemingly settled on Spectrum. The character has also seen a resurgence as part of Nextwave (which everyone should read) and the Ultimates. She is now definitely ready to step back into the limelight as part of the MCU.
