10 Awe-Inspiring Superman Moments That Prove He's DC's Greatest Hero

7. President Superman: Incorruptible

Does absolute power corrupt absolutely? Possibly, but when we're talking about Superman, don't count on it.

Some stories like to turn Superman into the villain (probably easier than creating a new character capable of challenging the Man of Steel), but Action Comics Annual #3 shows a possible future for Superman where being powerful in new & unexpected ways fail to corrupt him. Superman knows his limits, and has the discipline to wield power responsibly.

This timeline shows Clark Kent's life taking some pretty big changes, from the accidental death of his father Jonathan, his marriage to Lois Lane, having his secret identity revealed, and a even new career - President of the United States.

Clark runs for office at the request of his childhood friend Pete Ross, whose own campaign was cut short when he was injured in an assassination attempt that was thwarted by Clark. After some political squabbling about his birthright eligibility as an American born citizen (quite a bit of foresight there from 1991), Clark Kent wins the election with an overwhelming margin. Who wouldn't vote for Superman?

President Kent fights his never-ending crusade for the American Way through one crisis after another. He's even awarded a Green Lantern ring that belonged to disgraced GL Guy Gardner whom Superman defeated in self defense.

At this point he has amassed nearly absolute power... and he hands his ring back. Superman was on his way to being more than a president of one country, he could have become a global emperor without opposition at this rate, but he recognized the dangers of anyone person having that much control.
