10 Awesome Alternate Versions Of Superman

4. Ultraman

lord Superman
DC Comics

This name is held by several DC characters across various universes, each with varying origins. Essentially Ultraman is an evil version of Superman, and each iteration a member of a criminal Justice League analogue, such as the Crime Syndicate.

The original version of Ultraman is created by Gardner Fox and Mike Sekowsky, and the character first appears in Justice League of America (Vol.1) #29 published in 1964.

The original Earth-3 Ultraman differs from his doppelganger Superman in more ways than just his moral proclivities. In his universe Krypton still exists, and unlike Superman, he gets stronger when around kryptonite, gaining a new ability after each exposure.

This asset ultimately backfires on Ultraman when he is exposed to too much kryptonite at one time, imbuing too many new abilities for his body to cope with, rendering him incapacitated.

The most recent iteration of Ultraman can be found in the New 52 reboot beginning from 2011.
