10 Awesome Antiheroes From British Comics Creators

1. Dredd - Judge Dredd

Judge Dredd was created for 2000AD and is quite possibly the most famous character created in British comics history. Judge Dredd follows the Judge in a post-apocalyptic city, Mega-City One. Mega-City One is an impossibly large city that is rife with crime and protected by judges, who take out criminals where they see them. As stated in the comic, they are judge, jury and executioner.

Like a number of the antiheroes on this list, Dredd has a strong moral code and acts with extreme violence against those he judges as guilty. He is incorruptible and true to his beliefs. This is shown strongly in the storyline, The Return of Rico, which shows that Dredd arrested his brother, Rico, 20 years prior and shoots him when he returns seeking vengeance.

Judge Dredd is a quintessentially British comic, with similar crudeness to Tank Girl. It has inspired movies and countless games in its lifetime. There arguably isn't a comic book character to have emerged from the British Isles that is as iconic as Dredd, or a comics strip quite as successful.
