V for Vendetta is Alan Moore’s graphic novel following a fascist Britain in the early nineties. V, the terrorist hero of the comic, fights against the fascist government with extreme violence. The character is one who fights for freedom but through questionable means.

V begins the story by killing off those who tortured him in a concentration camp. These murders are shown to be prompted purely by revenge, and his morals are outweighed by his motives. His bombings are the opposite. They are terrorist acts, but are prompted by his moral need to free the people ruled by a tyrannical government.

The character is incredibly ruthless, with his ends, to him, fully justifying his means. These include kidnapping and psychologically torturing his friend and companion Evey Hammond, in order to give her the strength to fight against the fascist government.

V is a character who has had a massive influence on comic history and the modern world, with his mask being adopted by many, most notably the hacker group, anonymous.
