10 Most Awesome Characters To Have Worn A Power Ring

8. Mongul II

When Sinestro was captured by the Green Lantern Corps, the Sinestro Corps found themselves leaderless. Enter Mongul. Killing a wounded Sinestro Corpsman, he inherits the ring and spends hours learning about the fear-powered instrument. He then travels across the universe and recruits other Sinestro Corps soldiers to join him. Anyone who refused his leadership was quickly terminated, and Mongul took the ring of each Corpsman he killed, gaining an additional five rings. After taking over the planet Daxam, Mongul beat the monstrous Arkillo for control of the Sinestro Corps in a brutal battle and ripped out Arkillo€™s tongue at the end. He was the Corps new leader, although his triumph was short as he and his underlings were kicked off Daxam by Arisia, Sodam Yat and the newly powered Daxamites. He found his new home base on Korugar, the homeworld of Sinestro. Enslaving its citizens, he renamed the Yellow Lanterns as the "Mongul Corps." However, his reign wouldn€™t last long. Freed from captivity, Sinestro went back to Korugar to reclaim his position as leader of the Yellow Lanterns from Mongul. During their fight, Mongul seemed to have the upper hand, but using an override, Sinestro shut down Mongul€™s rings and soundly defeated the yellow alien, cementing his position as the top fear monger. He later imprisoned Mongul in the Sinestro Corps central power battery to be dealt with at another time. Despite his brief tenure with the yellow rings, Mongul proved he had the strength and power to unleash fear and take over the Sinestro Corps. Unfortunately for him, brute force and multiple rings don€™t necessarily make you the master of fear. He may have terrified his victims, but Sinestro used fear as a way to instill order. Mongul was just in it for himself, and that€™s what led to his downfall.
