Star Wars is a pretty big deal. This is news to no one at all. It's Star Wars. People love it, right? Well, yes, but there might still have been an element of shock at precisely how much people LOVED the idea of Marvel publishing a new Star Wars comic set in the continuity of the original film trilogy. Sales figures were recently released for January 2015 and they show that Star Wars #1 outsold Batman, the number two comic in the industry, NINE TIMES over. In an age when it is incredibly rare for a comic book to sell over 200,000 copies, Star Wars did well over a million. It's kind of a big deal, didn't you hear? Given that 2015 is going to be a massive year for the Star Wars franchise, with the release of JJ Abrams' Episode VII: The Force Awakens over the Christmas period, it's hoped by many within the comic book industry that this sales spike for the new series will not be an isolated incident. Will it bring a host of new readers to comics that will stick around to sample other offerings in their local shop? Only time will tell, but as of right now, Marvel have got things off to the best possible start, with the comic receiving rave reviews. It's obvious to fans how much writer Jason Aaron (of the previously mentioned Men Of Wrath) and artist John Cassaday (Astonishing X-Men) are also huge fans themselves; their enthusiasm for the material shines through.
