10 Awesome Image Comics Series You Should Be Reading
6. Saga
'Saga' is probably the most popular and critically acclaimed series on this list. It's a science-fiction/fantasy epic that skews more towards readers in their twenties and thirties, rather than children or teenagers. Written by Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man) and illustrated by Fiona Staples (T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents), it tells the tale of a husband and wife, Alana and Marko, from warring extra-terrestrial races. They are fleeing the authorities from both sides of the galaxy, while trying to raise their inter-species daughter, baby Hazel. It's a very interesting mix of the fantastical and the mundane, with Vaughan setting up this whole new universe for readers to get invested in, but focusing the crux of the story on a relatable young couple in love, struggling to make the best life for themselves and their daughter. Our favourite aspect of the series is that it is narrated by an adult version of baby Hazel, who is telling the reader the grand story of her parents adventures. This is a neat, quirky way of Vaughan giving us more insight into the story, and dropping hints as to events in the time line of the series.
