9. Why Jim Gordon Became A Priest - Damian: Son Of Batman
Damian: Son of Batman is a book created for the purpose of explaining the origins of Batman-666 in a more detailed manner, as only vague details about the events leading to Damian's ascension to the mantle were given in Morrison's writings.
One of the elements never left explained from this title is why James Gordon, after retiring from the GCPD, became a priest. Gordon has never really had a massive association with Catholicism, let alone religion in general, and yet he just becomes a priest in this story.
Damian is also given a newfound sense of spirituality, turning to Father Gordon for advice and visiting the confession booth throughout the story. Was this Andy Kubert's means of giving Gordon a presence despite his retirement? Almost certainly. Does it make sense? Not really.
