10 Best Batman & Joker Stories Ever Written

8. The Batman Adventures: Mad Love

The Batman Adventures: Mad Love was a one-shot comic book, written in 1994, that was set in the continuity of The Batman Animated Series. The story focuses on Harley Quinn - who had only been introduced just shy of a year and a half earlier in the animated series - as she falls in love with The Joker (when she was still psychiatrist Dr. Harleen Quinzel) while treating him inside Arkham Asylum. As a result of her love, she turns to a life of crime in order to impress him, hence the story's title. Years later, she is The Joker's sidekick, but he kicks her out of their lair after rebuffing her advances. She then plans to regain his affections by attempting to kill Batman, which ends up doing nothing but infuriating the Clown Prince of Crime, who badly injures her. The two then go their separate ways and Harley attempts to leave him behind and get on with a normal life, but when he sends her get well wishes, she falls in love with him all over again. Justifiably, the arc won an Eisner Award for "Best Single Story" in 1994.
