3. Alfred Gets Killed By A Rock
Last month, the whole world was watching as Scott Snyders Death of the Family story arc wrapped up. One of the biggest questions Bat fans had was whether or not Snyder had done the unthinkable and killed Alfred. That didnt happen and instead we are left with mixed feelings about the storyline. If you need some Alfred death to quench your thirst for Alfred death, you are in luck. Alfred was actually killed back in the 1960s by Batmans most formidable foe: a giant boulder. Alfred is taken captive by the Tri-State gang and is going to be executed. Batman and Robin go to bust him out, but they think hes already dead. Alfred, who has gotten himself out, thinks that Batman and Robin have also been killed, so whacky shenanigans ensue. Alfred takes it upon himself to commandeer a motorcycle and Sons of Anarchy his way out of there. During his escape though, a giant boulder becomes dislodged and crushes him, while Batman (realizing Alfred wasnt dead after all) screams OH NO! NO!, which is the 1960s version of the F-word. Many of the may be wondering why this death isnt a bigger deal or why you may not have heard of it. Like a few other entries on the list, the story loses focus and eventually turns into a mess that was dragged out for 3 years. A new villain shows up with the name The Outsider who torments Batman for a few months. Eventually, The Outsider is revealed to be a revived Alfred who has come back with revenge on his mind. They never really specify what the revenge is for, so Im going to assume he was fed up with doing Bruce Waynes laundry. Batman eventually punches The Outsider into turning back into Alfred. Alfred regains his place as Batmans butler and all is well with the world. This is a triumph because it showed Batman that it might not always be super villains who are responsible for the fate of his friends and family. Sometimes, it can be a falling boulder with a blood-lust.
