10 Best Comic Book Moments Of 2018
8. A Father-Son Heart To Heart
There are a handful of independent comic book titles that could be classified as juggernauts and on February 14, 2018, the fifteen year run of Invincible came to an end. While never as popular as Robert Kirkman's other long-running book, The Walking Dead, it has still been a well-received work that deserves the praise it gets from readers and critics alike.
In the finale to literally everything that has come before, one of the best moments is the beginning of the issue. Mark Grayson, the titular Invincible, comes to his son, Marky Murphy, and explains everything just as Mark's father did in the very first issue of the comic. Unlike his father though, Mark tells the truth without any lies or embellishments to make the Viltrumite Empire seem like some Utopian society.
He lays it all out, but stresses that while their race have been a warrior people in the past, Mark's father, and most importantly Mark as king now, have begun to move the Viltrumite Empire into a better culture - one that can be as heroic and altruistic as they should be.
It revels in the history while ultimately asking the ultimate question of the reader: "What will you have after 500 years?"
