8. Spawn Makes His Own Costume - Spawn #300

House of X X-Men Return
Image Comics

Although overlooked by many who'd never quite gotten into the series, Spawn's 300th issue was kind of a big deal. The mammoth comic marked Spawn as the longest-running series in independent comic history, and also provided a huge plot twist for fans by revealing that he still has powers even when separated from his iconic symbiote costume.

True to form, we learn this in the most badass way possible, as Al Simmons has the suit ripped off him - which by all means should kill him.

However, instead of dying, the decidedly naked hero recreates his costume with the nearest available supplies, which leads to him wrapping barbed wire around his bare flesh, driving some nails through his arms, and grabbing a random skull to use as a convenient genital shield.

In short, the whole scene is metal as hell, and brings us the badass delight of seeing Simmons confront his enemies in this new gory costume, telling them what we'd all already worked out - that with or without the costume, he's still Spawn.
