10 Best Comic First Issues This Week (Dec 12, 2018)
3. The Batman Who Laughs #1
The Dark Nights: Metal epic may be over, but there are still a few loose ends hanging around the Multiverse.
On a routine smuggling bust, Batman is shocked to find a coffin with a dead body that looks exactly like him in it! Well not exactly as it was in its early to mid 40s, has laugh lines and the tattoo of the name May on it, but otherwise, everything else checks out to be Bruce Wayne.
Meanwhile, over at Arkham Asylum, another Batman kills some guards, and even an inmate trying to talk him down. Cutting a path to the Joker, he lets in The Batman Who Laughs, who promptly sticks a sickle into Joker's forehead. After an exposition dump to Commissioner Gordon to catch everyone up on previous events, our Batman goes to the Batcave to let a very special guest in.
Without spoiling the ending hook, this book may become insane. For a first issue, it does all that needs to be done to get audiences up to speed and keep the reader spellbound to see what will happen next. Scott Snyder has one of the most lauded runs with Batman and with good reason but paired with Jock, this insanity can be compared to the creative team's work on the indie horror comic Wytches.
